I recently attended (watched?) the Leadercast online event, billed as the largest leadership event in the world. It featured presentations from a great range of speakers including Seth Godin, Rudy Giuliani, Peyton Manning, Ed Catmull and Malala Yousafzai the “Bravest Girl in the World”. There was numerous highlights and the Q&A’s between speakers was very insightful, but here’s a few of my highlights:

“Limit your field of view and you will see more!”, From ex Navy Seal Rorke Denver, I see this all the time, and am often guilty my self. As an even wiser colleague once told me, Don’t boil the ocean!

“Bravery is a team sport”, Ed Catmull from Pixar told a great story about how someone accidentally deleted a whole section of Toy Story 2 from the hard drives. Imagine that? but remarkably no one reverted to the blame game, instead they focused on fixing the process which allowed it to happen, if the finger of blame had come out it would have killed the culture that allowed creativity to thrive! Even though they knew who did it!

“Leadership is a path of Self Discovery”, I can’t remember who said it, but just take a look at the range of speakers, you would find it hard to put together a more disparate group, yet they are all leaders in their own right. Everyone must find their own style of leadership, and there is no right or wrong answer for any set management or leadership challenge, you just have to be true to your self, be honest, and find your voice.
